A Favorite Native

I’ve long loved the Oakleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia).
Sometimes the first quick impression is the only expression necessary. This page from my sketchbook in late October is one of these. I’ve tried to draw and paint this native many times and I don’t think I’ve ever captured it better than this simple drawing with  vine charcoal, new gamboge and turquoise.

New project notes:
My new project is much more figurative.
