American Plum (Prunus americana)
(aqueous acrylic and charcoal on muslin)
One of the trees that’s flowering now is the American Plum another member of the rose family (Rosaceae). You can find this small tree growing as part of the understory in most of the Eastern United States. The bright red plums are delicious and a major source of food for many animals besides man.
It has been a while since I have done a plant portrait and it was fun. I’ll do some more.
notes and quotes
Use acrylics like acrylics – don’t set yourself up for disappointments.
Make the shortcomings of acrylic the benefits. (William Hook)
